I think this is a good idea - only I think instead of a book, it should be a CD. They are cheaper to produce, can be full color, and can have photo's, etc.
Maybe we could setup a computer at the reunion and let people type it in (or email before the event).
I could also put a copy of this at my website so everyone could look at it online.
